Emerging from an overlook in the Colorado Front Range the project’s massing fills a previously excavated hillside. An exterior ramp connects two patios which provide commanding views of the mountains and valleys in every direction.
The interior supports a gallery and art studio, and two bedrooms. Finishes are kept simple and honest with a cork ceiling, clay plaster wall, and polished concrete floor.
The off grid Passive House Plus design will utilize timber passive solar thermal windows and solar electric panels optimized for snow shedding in winter. The building fabric will be one of the first in the United States to utilize the Ecococon straw panel system.
